What brings Coppell clients to trauma therapy
Some trauma is obvious — a serious car accident, an assault, the sudden loss of someone you love. A lot of it is quieter: a medical scare that still wakes you up at night, a childhood that taught you to stay on guard, a season of pressure that ended in burnout but never quite ended.
If you're avoiding places or conversations, snapping at people you love, feeling numb, or replaying the same moment on a loop — those are trauma responses, not character flaws. They're also exactly what trauma-focused therapy is built for.
And for Coppell's teens, the mix of academic pressure and social intensity can sit on top of all of it — we work with teens and children (including play therapy for the youngest) as well as adults.
Signs it's worth a conversation
- Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories
- Avoiding reminders of what happened
- Feeling on edge, jumpy, or unable to relax
- Numbness or disconnection from people you love
- Guilt, shame, or “it was my fault” loops
- A hard time trusting or feeling safe
What EMDR is — and what it isn't
It reprocesses stuck memories
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses structured bilateral stimulation — guided eye movements or tapping — to help your brain file traumatic memories the way it files ordinary ones, so they stop hijacking the present.
It doesn't require retelling everything
EMDR asks for the least verbal disclosure of any major trauma therapy. You identify the target memory and a few anchors (image, body sensation, belief) — you don't have to narrate the event out loud. Many clients find that's the most relieving part.
It's structured & paced to you
The 8-phase protocol starts with preparation and stabilization — especially for complex or long-running trauma — before any reprocessing begins. Progress is measurable as you go, and you set the pace.

Coming from Coppell
To be clear up front: our office is in Carrollton, not Coppell — and that hasn't stopped Coppell families from being a regular part of our week. Most tell us the drive runs 10–15 minutes via SH 121 to 4125 Fairway Dr #130, with free parking when you arrive. Evening appointments and Saturday mornings help it fit around work and school.
Prefer to skip the drive some weeks? Virtual EMDR uses clinician-led bilateral stimulation on screen, with outcomes comparable to in-person work for most clients — many families alternate between the two. (Clients working through significant dissociation often do better in person; we'll help you choose at intake.)
Using insurance for trauma therapy
Most plans cover EMDR and trauma therapy the same way they cover other psychotherapy — when there's a diagnosis like PTSD, anxiety, or depression. We accept most major plans, and we've written plain-English guides for each:
Out-of-network or self-pay? Superbills and a range of session rates keep it workable — call and we'll sort it out together.
Questions we hear a lot
Are you located in Coppell?
No — our office is in nearby Carrollton at 4125 Fairway Dr #130, about 10–15 minutes from Coppell via SH 121, with free parking on-site. We work with Coppell clients all the time, and many alternate in-person and online sessions depending on the week.
Will I have to describe my trauma in detail?
No. EMDR requires the least verbal disclosure of any major trauma therapy — you identify the target memory and a few anchors (image, body sensation, current emotion, belief), but you never have to narrate the event out loud.
How long until EMDR starts working?
For single-event trauma — a recent accident, assault, or distressing event — many clients report a meaningful shift within 1 to 3 reprocessing sessions, after initial preparation. Complex or long-running trauma takes longer because we stabilize first and work in phases.
Does virtual EMDR really work?
Yes — virtual EMDR using clinician-led bilateral stimulation has clinical outcomes comparable to in-person work for most clients. Clients with significant dissociation or an unsettled home environment often benefit from in-person sessions; we'll help you decide at intake.
Does insurance cover EMDR and trauma therapy?
Most commercial plans — including BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare/Optum — cover EMDR like any other psychotherapy when there's an identified diagnosis such as PTSD, anxiety, or depression. Self-pay rates at a range of price points and superbills are also available.
Do you work with kids and teens from Coppell?
Yes. Our team works with children (including play therapy for the youngest), teens navigating Coppell ISD pressure, and adults — and we coordinate with parents on a home-side plan, not just an in-session one.
