Stress & Burnout Therapy in Carrollton, Texas
Running on empty. Dreading Monday by Saturday night. Snapping at the people you love and feeling guilty about it. If stress has turned into burnout, our licensed therapists in Carrollton help adults get their energy, focus and patience back with practical, evidence-based tools.
Real Tools. Real Recovery.
Burnout is not a character flaw. It is a load problem.
The World Health Organization describes burnout as chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed, with three signs: exhaustion, growing cynicism or detachment, and feeling less effective than you used to. In North Texas it rarely comes from work alone. Long commutes on 121 and the Tollway, dual-career households, aging parents, kids’ schedules and a phone that never stops all land on the same nervous system.
At Let’sTalk! Counseling in Carrollton, our therapists treat stress and burnout in adults with the approaches that have the strongest evidence behind them: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for the perfectionism and “I should be able to handle this” thinking that keeps you overextended, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness for getting your attention and your values back, and practical skills work on sleep, boundaries and workload. When burnout has tipped into anxiety or depression, we treat that too, in the same room, with the same therapist.
We work with adults, young adults and caregivers dealing with job burnout, high-functioning anxiety, compassion fatigue in healthcare and teaching, parental burnout, and the flat, irritable exhaustion that shows up after months of running on adrenaline.

Stress you can push through. Burnout you can’t.
Stress feels like too much. Burnout feels like not enough: not enough energy, not enough caring, not enough of you left. If a few of these are familiar, it is worth a conversation.
At work
- Dreading the week before it starts
- Cynical about things you used to care about
- Working harder and getting less done
- Mistakes and “brain fog” you never used to make
- Counting down to the weekend, then not enjoying it
- Fantasizing about quitting with no plan
At home & in your body
- Exhausted after a full night’s sleep
- Irritable with your partner, kids or parents
- Headaches, tight shoulders, stomach trouble
- No energy for friends, exercise or hobbies
- Numb rather than sad
- Wine, scrolling or food to switch off at night
Three evidence-based methods, matched to your kind of burnout
Burnout from a toxic job, from caregiving and from perfectionism are not the same problem. Your therapist picks the tools that fit, and combines them when it makes sense.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
The thoughts behind burnout are predictable: “if I don’t do it, no one will,” “asking for help means I’m failing,” “I’ll rest when this project is over.” CBT helps you catch those patterns, test them, and replace them with rules you can actually live by. Structured and skill-based, with homework that fits a full life.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness
For people who have been white-knuckling it so long they can’t tell what they want anymore. ACT helps you reconnect with what matters, make room for the discomfort of saying no, and act on your values instead of your inbox. Practical mindfulness training, not incense.
Sleep, boundaries & workload skills
Burnout recovery is partly logistics. We work on sleep, the boundaries that keep collapsing, how you ask for help, and what has to come off your plate. Skills-based sessions borrow from DBT and are built to give you a win in the first two weeks.
Licensed therapists who work with adult stress and burnout

What burnout therapy looks like with us
Most people assume therapy will add one more thing to the calendar. Done right, it takes things off it.
Free phone consult
A short call to hear what’s going on, answer questions about insurance and scheduling, and match you with a therapist who works with adults and burnout.
Assessment (sessions 1-2)
We map where the load is coming from, what you have already tried, and whether anxiety, depression or a health issue is part of the picture. If a medical check makes sense (thyroid, sleep, iron), we will say so.
Quick relief first
Sleep, one boundary that will hold, and the first thought pattern to interrupt. Early wins matter when you are depleted.
The deeper work
The perfectionism, people-pleasing or old family rules that keep you overextended. This is where the pattern changes instead of just the symptoms.
A plan that survives real life
As you recover, sessions space out. You leave with an early-warning list, a maintenance plan, and the option to come back for a tune-up.
Most insurance plans cover therapy for stress and burnout
We’re in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Optum, TRICARE, Magellan Health, Beacon Health, and Humana. Burnout itself is not a diagnosis, but the anxiety, low mood, sleep problems and adjustment issues that come with it are, and those are covered mental health benefits under nearly every commercial plan in Texas.
Prefer not to use insurance? Self-pay sessions are available. Call (972) 885-1222 for current rates, or read our rates and insurance guide. We verify benefits before you book.
Stress and burnout therapy, answered
The questions clients ask most. If yours isn’t here, give us a call.
They overlap, and many people have both. Burnout is tied to a role, usually work or caregiving, and tends to ease when the load changes or you get real rest. Depression follows you into everything, including the things you used to enjoy, and does not lift with a vacation. Your therapist screens for both in the first sessions. If it is depression, we treat it directly. Read more on our depression therapy page.
Anxiety is the worry engine: what-ifs, racing thoughts, a body that will not settle. Burnout is the empty tank: exhaustion, cynicism and feeling less effective. A lot of burnout starts as high-functioning anxiety, so the two often arrive together. We treat both, and the approaches overlap. See our anxiety therapy page.
Usually no. Most clients recover while staying in their role by changing how they work, what they carry and how they rest. Sometimes the honest answer is that the role itself is the problem, and therapy becomes the place to make that decision clearly instead of in a crisis.
Most adults notice a shift in energy and sleep within the first 4 to 6 sessions. A full course is often 10 to 16 weekly sessions, then spacing out. Deep-rooted patterns like perfectionism or people-pleasing can take longer, and that is normal.
Yes. Parental burnout has its own research base and its own signature: exhaustion, feeling distant from your kids or the person you care for, and shame about both. We work with parents, mothers in the prenatal and postpartum period, and adults caring for aging parents.
Yes. We offer secure telehealth to anyone in Texas, and Damien Boyd also sees clients in Louisiana. For a burned-out adult, not adding a drive to Carrollton is often the difference between starting and not starting.
In most cases, yes. Sessions are typically billed under the anxiety, depression, sleep or adjustment-related concerns that come with burnout, which most plans cover. We check your benefits before the first appointment so there are no surprises.
